New field house eliminates double-booking, reduces overcrowding, and welcomes community
The new Lancer Athletic Building provides much-needed space for the district’s many athletic programs, improves safety, and solves double-booking problems. The 25,000-square-foot facility includes two multipurpose gyms and more cardio and weightlifting space. It also supports physical education programs and serves as a venue for community and park district recreational groups.
Because securing space was a struggle in the old gym, some student-athletes had to practice late. With the new Lancer Athletic Building and its two full-sized courts, practices end much earlier. The gym accommodates not only North Scott athletic teams but also community teams and feeder programs from area schools.
At three times the size of its predecessor, the 10,000-square-foot weight room supports every North Scott athletic team plus a physical education curriculum that involves every student. Two long rows of equipment allow instructors better views of the entire weight room. A turf area with a sectional door opens into the gym space. This allows athletes to sprint from the far north end of the weight room into the turf area and then into the wood of the gym.
We had a great team with Legat Architects and the construction manager Russell working with coaches, staff, the athletic director, and many others to identify our needs. We got the wow impact without the wow budget.
