Conceptual design sets standard for net-zero manufacturing
Industrial facilities are among the most difficult when it comes to achieving net-zero energy use. A specialty concrete company challenged Legat to create design concepts for a net-zero campus that emphasizes operational and energy efficiency.
The resulting scheme presents strategies ranging from natural landscaping and healthy materials to solar power and daylight harvesting. Totaling 57,000 square feet, the project has four programming areas: a high-bay production and distribution facility, office space, a cement plant, and a research and development facility.
The concept presents pros and cons for different configurations of solar arrays, green roofs, geothermal systems, stormwater collection, natural habitats, and more. Additionally, preliminary energy modeling shows the impact of building orientation on energy costs.
