Master plan revives LaSalle-Peru High School and respects campus’s 90-year history
LaSalle-Peru High School’s historic clock tower, auditorium, and stadium hold a special place in the hearts of many community members. The campus, however, had not had major upgrades in more than 50 years.
A master plan offers a strategy to revive the 90-year-old campus, modernize and expand classrooms, enhance security, and preserve architectural integrity. Highlights include a new math/science wing and campus quad as well as air conditioning installed throughout the school. The plan also proposes to consolidate everything under one roof so students and staff no longer need to travel outdoors during winter.
The plan, a collaboration between Legat and Kmetz Architects, stems from sessions with staff, faculty, students, parents, and community members.
Following the plan, a community engagement effort led to a successful $38 million referendum that renews the facility while respecting the building’s history.
