Three-part master plan evaluates and prioritizes campus needs and facility improvements in line with Heartland Community College’s Strategic Plan
The Heartland Community College Facilities Master Plan recommends short- and long-term improvements, as well as program needs and opportunities for growth at three Heartland Community College campuses.
Part 1, Inventory and Assessment, provides an overview of the college including site analyses, building analyses, space utilization studies, and an environmental scan. The Legat team conducted 77 interviews with stakeholders from every level of the college community and used a rubric to score each of the 200+ requests to develop Facilities Master Plan Objectives.
Once the master plan objectives were approved, the project moved to Part 2, Concept Development and Prioritization. The process included 13 pre-programming workshops with faculty and administration to understand the program requirements of the objectives. After aligning the pre-programming with industry benchmarks, the master planning team developed nine options (including recommended new buildings, additions, and renovations) for the main campus, then narrowed options down to three.
Part 3, Facilities Master Plan Development, fully documented Part 1 and 2 findings, prioritized projects, and provided cost estimates for suggested improvements.
Legat’s extensive higher education planning experience and deep understanding of how campuses function have undoubtedly propelled the college’s strategic plan by completing the master plan document.
