Interior design supports cross-departmental collaboration and celebrates adjacent forest preserve at new administrative building that consolidates three departments
Legat led interior design and furniture selection for the new 1110 North Pearl administrative building, which unites three Denison University departments: Communications, Institutional Advancement, and IT. The design responds to the 21,000-square-foot facility’s location next to a forest preserve and user requests for a more residential feel.
A darker entrance embraces the occupant before they step into the wide-open main area with white ceilings, playful yet muted colors, and views of the forest preserve. A conference room off the entry swaps the traditional large table and office chairs with sofas, lounge chairs, and coffee tables. The TV is mounted lower on the middle wall above a residential-type credenza.
Legat also inventoried and mapped out placement of all furniture, half of which is reused from other campus locations. While reused furnishings go to offices, new furniture appears in the main bullpen, conference rooms, and casual interactive spaces.
Creative Studio Architects was architect of record for this project.
Legat’s interiors team also provided furniture inventory and selection for two other Denison administrative building renovations: Beth Eden (built 1903) and Whisler Hall (built 1929).
